iTunes and the charts

Postby Wombat on 27 Jan 2007 11:32

Hey there Copeland-types,

I'm not sure about Europe or the rest of the world, but in the UK digital downloads from such sites like iTunes now count towards the Top 100 etc., etc. They don't have to have physical CDs available at the same time.

That means that if enough people bought one song from our adroit drummer's catalogue, we could get him in the charts. Now that would be pretty cool.

What track would you pick?

For whatever reason, there's not an awful lot of Stew-only stuff on the UK store of iTunes. (Orchestralli and the Highlander score is there).

I'd pick 'On Any Other Day' of course. In fact, I think I'm gonna get it right now.

When are we gonna see Klark's stuff, Stewart?

Best wishes and all that.

Won't it have to be a single release to make the charts? Or do album tracks count?

I am sure the next Police single will be a iTunes release...

I was wondering if they would release all their singles in a box set, with original artwork, bonus tracks , b-sides etc (like the Clash box set last year?)

If they did this - isn't it possible that more than one Police single would be in the charts at any one time?

Nah, it doesn't have to be a single release anymore. So the charts are going to be very different in the future.

When the Beatles arrive on iTunes - which I am told is imminent - the charts in the UK are going to look very cool indeed and really reflect what the public are buying.

Indeed if the box set was released digitally and enough people bought it, in theory the band could dominate the whole top 100. I fully expect the Beatles to do this at least.

Bring on the decent tracks. Woohoo!
