Written between 1977 and 1978, Outlandos D'Amour was recorded on a very small budget at Surrey Sound Studios in London and was produced by the band with Nigel Gray. It includes the singles "Roxanne," "So Lonely," and "Can't Stand Losing You," which brought the Police into the Top 20 in the U.K. Highlights in Stewart's performance include "Next To You" and "Peanuts," but the whole track list is full of energy and great songs in which Stewart's drumming is at its peak.

CREDITS
Reggatta De Blanc was written while the band was on tour promoting Outlandos D'Amour. Produced together with Nigel Gray and recorded again at Surrey Sound Studios, it includes "Message In A Bottle," the song that gave the Police its first number one hit, and "Walking On The Moon," another chart-topper. On Reggatta De Blanc Stewart's use of echoes with his drumming created an incredibly original sound, while his mixing of reggae rhythms with rock beats created the perfect model for what would become the classic Police sound.

CREDITS
A remake of "Don't Stand So Close To Me" is the only unreleased track on this compilation that gathers together the best singles of the Police catalogue from "Roxanne" to "Every Breath You Take." Recorded in 1986, "Don't Stand So Close To Me '86" was the last chance to see the band working together on a studio track; unfortunately Stewart had been injured a few days before recording began, and his part had to be arranged and recorded using a drum machine. Another song, "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da," was also re-recorded but was not included in the track list of this compilation.

CREDITS
Recorded live in Boston 1979 and Atlanta 1983 and produced by Andy Summers, the album illustrates how the live experience of the Police grew from the early days of Reggatta De Blanc to the stadium shows of Synchronicity. The two concerts showcase some of the band's renowned jams, bringing to fans a broader picture of the music based on improvisation, originality, and the perfect harmony created by the three members of the band working together. An innovative, sophisticated drum performance by Stewart in the later Atlanta show is balanced by his faster, impulsive, creative sound during the earlier Boston performance.
